서울시립 사진미술관은 국내 최초의 공공 사진미술관으로, 2024년 도봉구 창동에 개관을 앞두고 있습니다. 서울시립미술관의 분관으로 운영되는 이곳은 개관에 앞서 매년 다양한 형식의 사전프로그램을 통해 건립 과정을 공유하며 미술관의 역할과 기능에 대해 질문하고 있습니다. 올해 개최되는 사전프로그램 〈포트폴리오, 서울〉은 국내 사진 문화의 저변을 확장하고 시각예술 작가의 활동을 지원하고자 마련되었습니다. 본 프로그램은 ‘포트폴리오 리뷰’와 ‘아카이브 라운지’로 구성됩니다.
포트폴리오 리뷰는 국내외 사진매체 전문가(리뷰어)와 작가가 작품에 관해 의견을 나누는 자리입니다. 리뷰에 참여하는 작가는 2인의 리뷰어와 1:1 인터뷰를 진행합니다. 참여자 중 10여 명을 선정하여 작품을 다룬 글이 포함된 비평집 발간을 제공합니다. 홈페이지는 참여자들의 대표 이미지를 아카이빙하고 또 다른 사용자와의 연결을 만들어내는 플랫폼이 될 예정입니다. 사진·영상·미디어를 기반으로 활동하는 작가들의 많은 관심과 참여 바랍니다.
아카이브 라운지에서는 리뷰 참여자들의 사진집과 도록 등을 자유롭게 열람하고 서로 교류할 수 있습니다. 서울시립 미술아카이브 나눔동에 마련되는 이 공간은 모임과 대화를 위한 열린 장으로서, 리뷰 참여자를 포함한 시민 모두가 참여할 수 있습니다.

The Photographic Arts Center, Seoul Museum of Art, is the first public photography museum in Korea, scheduled to open in 2024 in Chang-dong, Dobong-gu, Seoul. The center is a branch of the Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA), and it has been sharing its establishment process through pre-opening programs in a wide range of formats every year leading up to its opening, presenting questions on its role and function as an art museum. This year’s pre-opening program, titled The Portfolio, Seoul, is designed to expand the ground of photography culture in Korea and support the creative activities of artists. The program consists of a Portfolio Review and an Archive Lounge.
Portfolio Review is a program where domestic and international reviewers who are experts of photography exchange opinions with artists on their works. Artists who participate in the program conduct a one-on-one interview with up to 3 reviewers. About 10 participants will be selected for the publication of a book with their works and critical essays on them. The website of the program will operate as a platform to archive representative artworks of participating artists and facilitate connections between the artists and the users. With this program, we hope to generate a lot of interest and participation from artists whose works are based on photography, video, and media.
Archive Lounge provides a space where visitors and participants can freely browse and interact with the photo books and exhibition catalogs of the artists who participate in Portfolio Review. The Archive Lounge is an open space for all citizens, as well as the program participants, to gather together and exchange conversations. The Exchanging Space at the Art Archives, SeMA, will host the Archive Lounge throughout the duration of The Portfolio, Seoul.
